Out and About

When you conjure a picture in your mind of a true Highland romantic vision, Newtonmore and its surrounds will not disappoint. Newtonmore offers direct access to some of Scotland's best activities and attractions including a wealth of the most renowned walking, climbing, Munro-bagging and hiking routes. The world-renowned winter sports centre of Aviemore and the Cairngorm Ski Area with its stunning Funicular Railway (the highest in the UK), is but a short distance away. A short trip to Aviemore also gives you access to the wonderful Strathspey Railway - a truly romantic vision in steam!

The acclaimed Rothiemurchus Estate is also within easy travelling distance. Rothiemurchus offers visitors the perfect Highland experience in some of Scotland's most dramatic and beautiful scenery. There are numerous walking and hiking routes, organised 4x4 tours, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, a superb shop and visitor centre and a whole wealth of other activities and experiences.

Visitors travel from the four corners of the globe to fish in the river Spey, and its reputation as one of the ultimate angling experiences is justly deserved. For the golfer there are some superb golfing opportunities are also available to visitors, including Newtonmore Golf Club right on our doorstep and twelve other courses within an hour's drive. Did we also mention the distilleries?

You'll also discover that you're in the heart of Monarch of the Glen country, with Newtonmore and its surroundings providing many of the most famous locations for the popular BBC TV series. Monarch of the Glen provides perhaps the best testimony to the beauty and scenic splendour of this wonderful area - on the TV it looks like a fantasy world, but in reality it is here for all to see.
